The Bluegrass Situation are coming up north of the border (for the first time!) during the coldest time of the year to partner up with The Dakota Tavern. They’re presenting us for a month of cover-themed nights every Wednesday in January 2015 at one of Toronto’s legendary roots music bars. Special guests Devin Cuddy, Oh Susanna, Simone Schmidtand Old Man Leudecke will play deep cuts and popular numbers from an assortment of classic artists of the 70s and 80s alongside the rebels in NCR.
That’s right, we’ve invited out some of Toronto’s most interesting singer-songwriters to try something new and NCR will be testing out material from our next album! Performing 2 sets each Wednesday night, New Country Rehab kick-it off, later joined by a special guest playing great classic covers. Here’s the line-up:
DEVIN CUDDY sings RANDY NEWMAN
OH SUSANNA sings THE ROLLING STONES
SIMONE SCHMIDT sings GEORGE JONES
OLD MAN LEUDECKE sings LOUDON WAINWRIGHT III
Come out to the Dakota Tavern in January and check out the best in live music at this truly unique residency. Get more than just warmed up with us as we ready ourselves for a February tour down south, hitting the stage at Folk Alliance 2015 and heading back into the studio for our 3rd album; all in the winter of 2015.

Serving up some saucy holiday hits on The Bluegrass Situation!
Hey, it’s that time of year again… For our friends down south it’s Thanksgiving this week and Christmas is just around the corner about every time of the year anyhow. Check out John Showman’s recipe for cranberry sauce featured this month on The Bluegrass Situation. “Roots culture redefined,” indeed on this great site about everything bluegrass right down to the food.
“Lost highway” video premieres on CBC Music // Fall tour dates!
We are returning to the US this month for a busy fall of dates supporting the album Ghost of Your Charms, including appearances at Nashville’s Americanafest and Raleigh’s Wide World of Bluegrass.
The latest video is for Ghost track “Lost Highway” premieres exclusively today on CBC Music and is directed by Juno-award winner Christopher Mills (Blue Rodeo, Tragically Hip, Interpol, The Joy Formidable). A nod to legendary Canadian filmmaker/animator Norman McLaren in the year he would have turned 100, “Lost Highway” employs animation techniques akin to McLaren’s “Neighbours” in a Toronto cityscape that recalls Cronenberg’s Crash. Ghostly dancers soar in the air through neon streams, floating along Lakeshore and the Gardiner while NCR cook up a bluesy sludge cauldron of rock.
“Lost Highway was a really fun opportunity to mash contemporary dance together with lo-fi, hyperactive, grrrl-power fuelled animation,” says director Christopher Mills. “I got to build an imaginary chase sequence, using a few tools inspired by Mr. McLaren’s films. Long live rock, long live women who don’t take no mess, long live the NFB (National Film Board of Canada).”
